Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner were my beauty icons growing up. I also idolised Judy Garland, because when I was a kid I wanted to be in musical theatre.
I’ve always loved make-up. When I was a little girl, I used to sit by my mum’s make-up table and watch her apply it. I was always fascinated by how she transformed. She was my mum one minute, then she would turn into this glamorous lady the next. And I have nice memories about make-up from being a little girl.
I used to love playing with it and I wear it every day now. My normal routine is concealer, mascara, blush, eyebrow pencil, a cream or powder eyeshadow and a lip conditioner. I always feel that if I’m at least wearing mascara, then I look more awake. Concealer is also a good on-the-spot companion to a compact if foundation is too heavy or there’s not enough time to apply it smoothly – but wearing full-face foundation is my standard for beauty. I like to have dark, really thick voluminous lashes that curl out at the sides. It’s a very dramatic look, and one I love to wear for red-carpet events. I get amazing make-up artists to do my make-up for work, but I love to do my own, too.
In terms of things I’ve learned from them, I’ve found that a lot of artists use a corrector pen to draw on the outside of the lip before applying lip colour, so you can make your own shape and stop the colour from spreading. It’s a really good tip for red lipstick, which I wear a lot.
My favourite lipstick for years has been Dolce & Gabbana Classic Cream Lipstick in Devil, and it’s still my go-to. I think it’s a look that will never go out of fashion.
I try to live a healthy lifestyle. I drink plenty of water, which has always been my mother’s advice for good skin, and I always have a glass of water with some lemon before coffee in the mornings. I’m always on the go, but I try to rest when I feel tired and not fight the feeling of exhaustion. If I have to quickly freshen up, I’ll use a cold pack on my face. It helps when you have to wear make-up every day for hours, which can make your face look like a disaster.
For fragrance, during the day I normally wear oils. At night, sometimes I’ll mix different scents or I’ll just layer them over what I’ve put on that day. I love Dolce & Gabbana The One and The One Essence. The One is feminine, sophisticated and timeless. The One Essence is a more potent way of wearing it. It lasts longer throughout the day, so the effect makes more of a statement. I think the scent gives a real feeling of confidence – it makes me think of someone who can walk into a room and own it; that they’re comfortable in their own skin.
My beauty look for Christmas would probably be a highlight on the cheeks or sparkle on the eyes and then, of course, a red lipstick. I think that matches every season, but it certainly feels very festive, too. I think of vanilla as being a Christmas scent because my family cooks a tapioca-style Christmas pudding every year, with warm fruit sauce. It cooks for the whole day before and the entire house smells of fresh vanilla. And my Christmas wish? It’s to get eight hours of sleep – maybe one day.

Scarlett Johansson was born in New York City on November 22, 1984. She began acting as a child, and her role in the movie The Horse Whisperer brought her critical acclaim at age 13. After more than two years of marriage, Johannson divorced Dauriac in September 2017.

During her school years, Johansson landed some acting roles, including her film debut in 1994’s North with Elijah Wood. Her first leading part came two years later with Manny & Lo, an independent dramatic comedy. Johansson played the younger sister of a pregnant teenager, both of whom were in foster care. Her twin brother, Hunter, also made an appearance in the film.
Breakout Role in ‘The Horse Whisperer’
Johansson attracted critical attention with 1998’s The Horse Whisperer, also starring Robert Redford and Kristin Scott Thomas. Her portrayal of a young amputee won over many fans, including the film’s star and director. Redford commented on Johansson’s remarkable maturity, saying that she was “13 going on 30.” In 2001 the actress received even more positive attention from critics with her supporting role in Ghost World, despite its tepid box office success.
